Sassari's mayor delivers a harsh attack on the water emergency. Giuseppe Mascia addresses the ongoing water crisis plaguing the city for days . "It's well known that the local water network is old and in poor condition, and the current regional government deserves credit for having earmarked unprecedented investment in its complete modernization, which, however, requires time," he states. "But it's unthinkable that, in the meantime, every breakage should lead to problems like those currently facing the city of Sassari and other towns in Northwest Sardinia ."

The mayor's accusation then becomes more specific: "Despite the commitments made by those responsible to regional and local administrators, the last stretch of the two aqueducts serving this part of the territory, namely Coghinas 1 and Coghinas 2, has still not been interconnected ."

Abbanoa, which is not the target of the mayor's criticism, was forced to cut off its water supply after the Sardinian Water Authority announced the faults in its water network. As soon as the service was reinstated, cloudy and foul-smelling water came out of the taps. The mayor criticized the service disruptions as "no longer tolerable." "The emergency protocol and timely reporting, agreed upon a year and a half ago during the summit convened at Palazzo Ducale following yet another emergency, has remained a dead letter," Mascia complained. "We don't intend to point the finger at anyone in particular, but an intermittent service interruption that has now been going on for days is unacceptable, especially without any form of communication to users ," he emphasized. "The patience of citizens, continually deprived of an inalienable and essential resource like water, is understandably wearing thin."

«We cannot leave the second city of the island and the whole of North West Sardinia in these conditions – he concludes – urgent and definitive decisions must be taken, enough with the patching up and the constant inconveniences».
