“Given how I live, prison is better than going home.” This is the resigned confession, today in court in Sassari, of a 59-year-old arrested yesterday in Alghero for assault and resisting a public official. The man had received a visit from ASL workers who wanted to check on his health conditions but he reacted violently, repeating the same behavior when the soldiers arrived and had to stop him and take him to the courtroom for a summary hearing.

In this case, the legal case represents only a small part of a context of extreme discomfort that the accused is forced, in solitude, to live every day. An alarming situation of degradation that has activated the controls of the Local Health Authority and today the solidarity of the defense attorney Francesco Sini Nurra who tried to help the 59-year-old to make the right choice.

At the end of the hearing, the latter accepted the plea bargain of eight months, ordered by judge Monia Adami - the prosecutor was Paola Manunza - considering some precedents. Now the hope is that the man can get back on track without aspiring to prison to live a better life.
