“Carbone” for Mondo Convenienza in Sassari. This morning the singular protest, on the day of the Epiphany, in the Predda Niedda store to seal the strike called by Filcams Cgil.

"The holiday is not for sale", this is the message of the mobilization in which dozens of workers participated. "The workers and designers employed - explains Maria Teresa Sassu, general secretary of Filcams Cgil Sassari - cannot choose whether or not to work on the holiday. If they refuse, a letter of protest is sent".

A sort of imposition despite, workers report, the shop is often empty on holidays. "For us - says Costantino, an employee - it's frustrating. We would like more dialogue with the company".

Also because the area references change often and the negotiations consequently fall through. There are 50 workers in the Sassari store, 20 of whom are on fixed-term contracts. "And the average age is always decreasing - continues Sassu - because no one can stand these rhythms and conditions anymore".

"I worked for years in this company," says a former employee, "they treated me in an inhumane way and I left."

The company's response.

- The event was attended by approximately 34 people, 4 of whom were members of Mondo Convenienza staff, while the others were external to the organization.

- In regulating openings and closings during the holidays, we emphasize that our company adapts to the general rules of the sector, following the closing days on almost all holidays. Most of the stores, including the one in Sassari, were closed on December 24, 25, 26, 31 and January 1. Our company always tries, with a sense of responsibility, to reconcile the needs of employees and those of customers.

- The Sassari store had six holiday openings for 2024: January 6, April 25, June 2, November 1, December 6, and December 8. As a result, no employee was required to work continuously during all holidays.

- Mondo Convenienza is constantly committed to ensuring job stability. Currently, the Sassari store has 56 employees, including 50 salespeople, all with permanent contracts.

- Our choices regarding the management of the holidays have been supported by recent jurisprudential guidelines.
