The tug-of-war between the Muslim Roma and the Sassari municipal administration continues.
The community, made up of about seventy unvaccinated people, has not returned to the Piandanna camp on the outskirts of the capital for the past two weeks.
They are afraid of being infected by Covid which had involved other Roma - Orthodox Christians - in the camp, with which they are neighboring. Although it seems that now the contagious situation in the camp is under control, Muslim Roma continue to wander around the city.
Now I'm in a parking lot of a shopping center in Predda Niedda.
We have absolutely no intention of returning to Piandanna and we continue determined in our protest - comments Marcello, a 22-year-old Roma. He adds: “The Municipality must absolutely find another place for us.” A mantra repeated by all the other Muslim Roma.
The municipal administration of Sassari, on the other hand, remains firm in its positions, expressed several times in recent days by the councilor for social services Gianfranco Meazza, who has ordered the Roma to return to Piandanna.
The case is therefore still difficult to solve. For now there has been no show of strength by the police.
