Tomorrow, starting at 8:30 p.m., the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Sassari hosts the second installment of "Organ Vespers," a series curated by Maestro Ugo Spanu and part of the Festival del Mediterraneo, in collaboration with the "Luigi Canepa" Conservatory of Music in Sassari . The double concert features organist Stefano Melis Sechi and the Agàpe Duo , Silvia Cossu on marimba and Martina Porcheddu on flute, all students at the Sassari Conservatory.
Stefano Melis Sechi, organist and harpsichordist, will open with "Batalla de sexto tono" by José Ximénez, a 17th-century Spanish composer. This will be followed by "Variations on Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen" ( Wein, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen), S. 673, by Franz Liszt. This piece, written in 1862, is based on a theme from the first movement of the cantata "Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen, BWV 12" and the theme of the "Crucifixus" from the Mass in B minor, BWV 232, both compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. This will be followed by "Hamburg" from the "Trois Préludes Hambourgeois" by Swiss organist Guy Bovet.
In the second part of the evening, the Agàpe Duo will instead present Soundscapes . It will begin with Isle of Skye , by the very young and talented percussionist Michael Iorio, a five-movement suite dedicated to the Scottish island of Skye. This will be followed by the Nordisk Suite (Nordic Suite), a composition by Jonas Ervolder Bovè, a Danish composer and percussionist known for his skill in blending modern musical themes with traditional pieces. The Suite is inspired by the melancholic melodies of Nordic folk rituals and is structured in three fragments.
