"It is truly intolerable that similar episodes affect the school". This is how the mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia commented on the arson attack that hit the institute on via Cedrino with two areas of the complex affected by flames set by unknown persons, presumably, during the night between Saturday and Sunday.
An episode that adds to the one that, last summer, caused damages for over half a million euros with another fire in the primary school of via Cilea, also in the neighborhood of Latte Dolce. And now the local police officers, together with the Scientific Police of the State Police, are investigating to find any links between the two events.
Given the conditions of the school, the mayor then ordered with an ordinance the suspension of lessons for tomorrow as well.
"We must not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed - continues Mascia - by the sense of impotence in the face of yet another act of cowardice towards a city school structure."
The hope is to soon find the perpetrator or perpetrators of the vandalism that also affected a school classroom that had just been renovated with funds from the PNRR.
"We must acknowledge that the Municipality of Sassari must make an exceptional effort to guarantee maximum safety, maximum security and maximum vigilance for the city schools and for those who live there." "It is an incredible situation," adds the Councilor for Educational Policies Nicoletta Puggioni, "and it is absurd that no one ever sees anything."
Puggioni, the school principal, then intervenes on the state of mind of the staff: «What happened hurts me twice, as a councilor and as a director. Those who work every day and are committed with dedication to the school are debased by these acts».
Now we need to find the resources to fix the fire. "It takes months, and sometimes years, to fix the classrooms. People need to understand that school belongs to everyone and that the damage is not only the Municipality's."
