Yesterday, news broke in Sassari that four teachers were investigated for mistreatment of four children with disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, and today the facility released a statement. The Gesù Bambino Shelter on Viale Mameli has provided some clarifications regarding what was learned from the ongoing State Police investigation. It recalls that the Shelter itself is an injured party in the incident and is comprised of several different entities.
“He was never informed,” a note regarding the Shelter states, “of the existence of any ongoing investigation until the notification received on the morning of March 5.”
"It is further specified that the individuals currently under investigation are no longer employed by the institution and are therefore no longer part of the community under investigation." To preserve the institution's reputation, the statement reads: "We also wish to firmly emphasize that no teachers are among those under investigation."
"At this time," the statement concludes, "we are unable to provide further details, as we are not aware of them. However, we reiterate our full confidence in the judiciary's work and our full willingness to cooperate with the competent authorities."
