«Review the Fosso della Noce project». The request comes from Italia Nostra and Earth Gardeners whose representatives, in recent days, met Giuseppe Mascia, mayor of Sassari. The bone of contention is always that 5 million euro project, financed with funds from the Pnrr, called “Interventions for the hydraulic safety of the Fosso della Noce valley” whose implementation has caused quite a bit of controversy in recent years with demonstrations against the idea and signature collections.

A project that, in the intentions of the previous municipal administration led by Gian Vittorio Campus, wanted to mitigate the hydrogeological risk of the valley, assessed with Hi4, the most insidious parameter . In the various articulations of the program, it was insisted on the fact that the two embankments of Viale Trento and Viale Trieste, "being devoid of passage lights, represent an obstacle to the regular flow of natural waters". With the feared outcome that, it was written in the technical-economic feasibility project, this could cause "in the event of intense meteorological events, flooding and raising of the water levels theoretically up to the levels of the road levels".

But this very passage is contested by the two associations in the face to face with the mayor . «The two embankments», they argued, «still have through lights, perfectly usable and in an excellent state of conservation for Viale Trieste, and currently blocked, but perhaps still well preserved, for Viale Trento». Translated, according to Italia Nostra and Earth Gardeners, no further drilling is needed nor the microtunneling that should be used in the operations. For the two organizations, it is above all necessary to pursue «the mitigation of risk through the regeneration of the drainage capacity of the Valley, and as a final goal the inclusion of the project in the broader urban plan for the recovery of the peri-urban Valleys and the creation of an extensive and usable Linear Public Park».

And among the clarifications made in the procedure for subjecting the Project to the Environmental Impact Assessment, which should have a priority in the executive project, they highlighted, among others, those on the "discrepancy in interventions with respect to the underlying Valle dell'Eba Giara (Rosello) and the problems connected to the collector downstream towards Viale San Francesco". The mayor has expressed himself several times on the Fosso della Noce, also in the City Council, reporting that he has no intention of carrying out massive interventions on the valley . But something will certainly have to be done.
