From fear to affection for the local police, with the complicity of a road trip through the middle of the grass.
In Sassari, the children's sports center promoted in Villa Gorizia by the "Scuola di ballo Re e Pintus" association experienced an intense educational moment yesterday, where, in the end, emotions prevailed.
"I had contacted the municipal police some time ago to ask them to participate with the children in the Road Safety Education Project Day," explains Raffaella Re, who manages and coordinates the activities. The Municipal Police's approval allowed us to arrange a series of preparatory meetings with the dozens of children, the facility's seven educators, and finally the police.
"The officers created a path with several signs, guiding the approximately 30 children, aged 6 and up, who were driving mini electric cars." But the "road" was experienced not only by the baby drivers but also by the young pedestrians, who received the basic skills for crossing the road safely.
“At first,” Raffaella continues, “they were a little intimidated by the uniforms and scared of these ‘strangers,’ but in the end, thanks to the officers’ empathy, they bonded with them by clinging to their legs because they didn’t want them to leave.”
At the end of the experience, the municipal police handed out their licenses. This incident briefly highlights the underground work for children carried out by people like "Maestra Raffaella," a graduate in education with several master's degrees, and a longtime focal point for volunteer work in Li Punti and the surrounding villages. Her collaboration with institutions, particularly preschools, has been crucial for years, offering art classes for the little ones, including ceramics and painting. "They participate enthusiastically, and it's the greatest satisfaction because children are the voice of truth, and if they don't like you, they stay away."
