A bloody night in Sassari's historic center . Yesterday, yet another brawl erupted between Via Ramai and Via San Cristoforo. And the consequences are there for all to see. The street is covered in blood for several meters, with a large stain and a few drops scattered across the cobblestones.
“We heard them yelling, ‘Give up the money!’ and ‘I’ll kill you!’” local residents reported, describing what they experience almost every night, but which yesterday was worse than usual.
"I'm scared. All the drug addicts are shooting up here," says an elderly woman who now spends most of her day cooped up in her house. "They knock on the door at midnight and later asking for money," says another resident.
Residents are deeply exasperated, coupled with anger over a situation that has been recurring for years. This is despite checks and interventions by law enforcement—Carabinieri, State Police, Guardia di Finanza—and the local police, who patrol Corso Vittorio Emanuele and, in recent days, conducted a nighttime operation. Last night's incident parallels yesterday's brawl between non-EU delivery drivers in Piazza Nazario Sauro. Belting and punching lasted 20 minutes , culminating in the arrival of the Carabinieri. Different issues, but equally alarming.
