35,460 euros collected to give as a dowry to future spouses on the feast of San Nicola in Sassari.

This evening, in the cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of the capital of Turritano, the ancient custom of giving those who are about to get married, and have limited economic resources, a sum of money to cover the expenses of the imminent wedding was renewed.

People chosen through the parishes - this year San Pio X, San Giuseppe and San Donato - that they attend and drawn by lot at the end of the solemn pontifical celebrated by the Archbishop of Sassari, Monsignor Gian Franco Saba.

And the high prelate himself wanted to remember how the holy bishop of Mira is associated with generosity and miracles performed, in addition to the gesture which, legend has it, led him to donate money to future husbands and wives.

The Municipality also contributed to the significant amount collected, a good 5 thousand euros more than last year, giving 14 thousand euros as in 2023. The day in which San Nicola is celebrated will be accompanied, on Sunday 8 December, together with the celebration of the Immaculate Conception, by the rite of the infiorata in Piazza Mazzotti .

At 10 am, as an act of veneration, a wreath of flowers will be placed on top of the Marian Column on the statue of the Madonna.
