Holy water and the sign of the cross . A sacred image: this too is Sartiglia . This morning many people attended the blessing of the horses and riders of the joust in Piazza Sant'Efisio . Immediately after the celebration of the mass, all the trios that will make up the procession on Sunday and next Tuesday lined up to receive the blessing from the parish priest Don Alessandro Floris.
A start of Sartiglia: the countdown has begun, among applause, emotions and souvenir photos. In the "Su Brugu" neighborhood, then, it was the turn of the protagonists of the Sartigliedda that will take place instead on March 3. Also present was Eleonora Demontis, the young horsewoman who during the two days of the Sartiglia will dress up as Eleonora d'Arborea on horseback. This event was created, many years ago, by the former parish priest of Sant'Efisio, Monsignor Gianfranco Murru.
The party continued in the afternoon. More than a thousand children participated in the traditional “Sartill'e Canna”, riding the hand-made reed colts adorned with colored paper rosettes. Sword in hand, a fake one of course, eyes fixed on the star and then off they went quickly to hit the target. Everything happened like the Sartiglia, the real one. But in miniature and with carnival costumes: pulcinella, harlequin, pierrot and many others. A party that has been going on for more than thirty years, organized by the association for the protection and increase of reed horses. For hours, children from all over the island imitated their idols, the knights who will be the protagonists in via Duomo next Sunday and Tuesday during the Sartiglia. The first to try his luck was su Componidoreddu Lorenzo Buschettu, 8 years old. And then all the others. A party accompanied by the roll of the mini drummers and mini trumpeters of the Pro Loco.
A day to remember for all participants.
