"We are exasperated and ready to strike." In Sardinia's sick health system, in addition to general practitioners who are not found, there is also a lack of nurses (more than 4 thousand). And the few who resist are enraged.
And the few who resist are enraged. After taking to the streets to get the new contract, they are now ready to activate the unrest procedures to get it applied. "They are massively violating the contract, the measure is full," warns Diego Murracino, regional manager of Nursing Up, the union of the health professions.
What ignites spirits is article 44 which fixes the emergency service at a maximum of seven monthly shifts, which "continues to be used improperly", says the trade unionist who also speaks of "humiliating downgrading and violations of the regulations which they trample on the dignity of nurses".
He calls for an immediate comparison and says he intends to bring the numbers one of the local health authorities, hospital-university companies, Areus and Arnas Brotzu to the prefectural table. Among the hot topics also overtime ("Some people exceed a thousand hours of unpaid overtime"), and the ratio of one nurse for every six patients clearly skipped: "While politicians are busy with inaugurations and announcements they forget that in Sardinia we have realities where we go on with one every twelve», he says before the roll call. "We ask for respect for our dignity, for our rights to finally be recognized and for health care to be taken seriously, starting with the management of beds and the adjustment of staff, by inserting social and health workers on night shifts".
