Outpatient activities reduced by a third and total closure in 5% of the smallest facilities. It is the result of the mix between chronic staff shortages and sacrosanct summer holidays in the internal medicine departments of hospitals in Sardinia.
The alarm , which returns punctually every year between June and September throughout the country, was reported by representatives of Fadoi (Federation of Associations of Internist Hospital Managers) who in recent days met majority and opposition parliamentarians in the Senate to ask « an enhancement and a cognitive investigation into Internal Medicine".
Thus, to make up for staff shortages, the volume of work increases in the summer, with serious repercussions on extra shifts and weekly rest periods, which are often skipped.
