Sardinian airports, the clash reignites: the merger under the scrutiny of the judges

On March 19, the trial on the merits of the merger of the northern Sardinia airports will begin in court, which is the first stage of the disputed integration project between the Sardinian airports. On one side, the management companies Geasar (Olbia) and Sogeaal (Alghero), on the other, the Region, which in July 2023 had challenged the merger resolutions.
The decision to block the marriage between the airports was taken by the Solinas Council – the assessor was Antonio Moro –, but in the meantime the political scenario has changed. Governor Alessandra Todde, after an initial halt to the merger , last summer made official her intention to enter the capital of the future holding company of the Sardinian airports that should bring together the Chamber of Commerce of Cagliari (owner of Sogaer) and F2i, an investment fund that owns the majority stakes of Geasar and Sogeaal. 30 million are expected for the operation and the clash has already flared up again in the Regional Council.
But now the word goes back to the judges, who already on two occasions in 2023 had accepted the Region's theses on the illegitimacy of the merger process. And now? Will Viale Trento maintain its position of opposition to the marriage between Olbia and Alghero? For now, no specific indications have arrived on the subject.
