They were supposed to serve for six months. All the extraordinary commissioners who have been governing Sardinia's healthcare authorities since April 27 have been extended. The Regional Council, led by Alessandra Todde, decided yesterday, following a proposal from Regional Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi. And the opposition has come forward with a dig: "I'm buying time to share out the positions."
The resolution
Bartolazzi recalled that all the positions would expire on Monday, October 27 (except for the one in Oristano, which ended on November 5). The commissioners, in the view of the Council, were part of the "process of efficiency and overall reorganization of the institutional and administrative structures".
organizational changes of the Regional Health Service" initiated with the mini-reform that had led to the dismissal of the managers who had been appointed by Christian Solinas.
However, the procedures for assigning the new general managers were only initiated on September 17th. Applications could be submitted until October 4th. The committee for assessing the suitability of aspiring managers was only formed by decree of the president on October 20th. The process has been extended, so the extraordinary commissioners will remain in office until the new general managers are chosen, "and in any case for no longer than six months."
The extensions are:

The opposition
The Regional Council's decision isn't popular with those who sit on the Fratelli d'Italia benches in the Regional Council. Corrado Meloni speaks for everyone: "The Todde administration's script has become monotonous: every decision is about partition, not the interests of the Sardinians. The extension of the mandates for the health authority commissioners," he accuses, "is only useful to allow President Todde and her majority to agree on who will occupy the seats. Although the regional health service's problems are well known, and have worsened during the Todde-Bartolazzi administration," Meloni continues, "they are not being addressed, and the solutions that patients, doctors, and workers in the sector have long been waiting for in vain are being postponed. They are sacrificing the Sardinians' right to health for the needs of the Democratic Party, which had already suffered from the Five Star Movement's division of the commissioners."
The Melonian representative continues: "They made Sardinia 'pay' for four months of provisional administration, with the sole aim of ousting the general managers of the health authorities appointed by the previous government, and then hatching a mini-healthcare reform. An administrative mess that risks being struck down by the Constitutional Court. Adding insult to injury: during these months of administration, no action aimed at improving healthcare has been observed."
Despite the tragedies in Dorgali and Aritzo and the mayor of Isili's last desperate protest to ensure adequate emergency care for the residents of the Sarcidano-Barbagia di Seulo area at the San Giuseppe hospital, "the only concern of the Todde administration and the ramshackle Campo Largo is to fill positions before it's too late."
