Sardinia without water, the emergency data: 600 million cubic meters less in 15 years
Reservoirs 44% "full", the alarm increases with the comparison with previous years: high risk of restrictions if it doesn't rainPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The data of the water emergency in Sardinia are dry, like the countryside and some basins. In the reservoirs of the Island there are 805.37 million cubic meters of water: they are "full" at 44.15%. Only last month the same parameters stood at 915.8 million (-110.43 million in 31 days) and 50.21% of occupied capacity.
There has been a boom in tourists, consumption has increased: but if you do the math, it turns out that over 3.5 million cubic meters of water have been consumed every day in Sardinia. At this rate, the resource - and it certainly couldn't be sucked up from the bottom - would run out in 230 days. Preventive restrictions will be necessary. How much will it rain this autumn-winter?
The numbers that come from the monthly drought monitoring carried out by the Basin Authority are devastating, published today and updated to August 31. To understand the gravity of the situation, if it were still necessary, just go back in time.
Last year's report, same period: 1134.16 million cubic meters were recorded in the dams, which were 62.18% full. 328 million cubic meters are missing. A figure in line with 2022 (in August there were 1135 million cubic meters available). The figure was slightly lower than the previous year, 2021: the cubic meters were one million and 117 thousand. Ten years ago (2014) over 1200 million cubic meters were recorded.
And if we go back 15 years, the oldest monitoring available, the current picture is even more dramatic: then, in 2009, 1385 million cubic meters were stored: 580 million more than today.
