The new rules to combat the spread of the coronavirus push many people to access vaccinations and large users create queues and inconvenience in the hubs and vaccination centers of Sardinia.

Yesterday there were long queues in the rain and in the cold and at the Cagliari Fair there was also a problem with the computer systems that further lengthened the time, creating discontent among the waiting people.

On the island there are about 74 thousand over-50s who must comply, as required by the new government decree, with the obligation to vaccinate, a number that is gradually decreasing.

“We are giving our best, and making important numbers - says Gabriele Mereu, head of Vaccinoprophylaxis of the Asl of Cagliari and of the hubs of the Fair -, unfortunately there are unforeseen events such as the blocking of the computer system for a few hours and everything slows down. Not only that: many people are showing up who ask for the first dose and want it immediately (maybe they tried to make the appointment but they only found the first free slot in February), those who could have done it easily months ago and if they don't care (or they hoped to 'get away with it') now they obviously have the urgency. And clearly this aspect also creates problems. We went as far as we could, around 1 pm everything started again and we continued as usual until 8 pm ”.

Mereu also underlines "the enormous effort that health personnel are making (partly engaged in these days also with screening for schools, not that of the Fair anyway, which has been left entirely to make vaccines), personnel who in many facilities is also reduced due to Covid (between infections and quarantines). We are in the trenches, and this is a critical period ".
