Sardinia, the island of singles: record number of single-person households

Of 740,116 families in Sardinia, 39.9% consist of a single person. This demographic difference is unique in Italy, according to an analysis of the most recent ISTAT data.
The phenomenon is primarily due to lifestyle choices, but also to the loss of a partner in older couples or the move to avoid paying property tax on second homes.
