On the one hand the pensions which remain low with the cut in the revaluation . On the other hand, inflation that sends bills and shopping carts skyrocketing.

Hard life for the more than 470,000 Sardinian pensioners, it is difficult to make ends meet with an average pension that amounts to just over 800 euros .

The high cost of living negatively affects the lifestyle of 95% of pensioners , this is what emerges from a survey carried out throughout the national territory by Uilp: for 14.9% it affects very much, for 56% a lot, only for 25, 8% affects little or nothing.

The sting weighs even more in a region, Sardinia, where pension amounts are low and bills are the highest in Italy. There are 472,053 Sardinian pensioners, they earn an average of 804.48 euros .

According to the union's report, over 88% say they have had to make sacrifices and sacrifices to make ends meet . 28% saved on food and household products, 10% on medicines, 36% on both medicines and food. Again: 57% gave up coffee at the bar, 80% dinners at the restaurant, 53% stopped practicing hobbies and sports, 49% gave up personal care, such as the barber or hairdresser. 69% no longer go to the cinema, the theater or concerts, a good 83% finally declare that they can no longer afford to travel.

The elderly have also had to tighten their belts on the energy front: 90% have turned off or lowered the heating in their homes, 88% have greatly reduced their electricity consumption. 55% had to give up the daily use of the car .

«The questionnaire photographs a constant impoverishment of the category of pensioners - explains the general secretary of Uil Pensionati Sardegna Rinaldo Mereu -, in our region there are many beneficiaries of pension benefits and the amounts of pensions are very low. On the other hand, the cost of bills is slightly higher than the national average and the shopping cart is constantly increasing. In the face of this situation, there is also the failure to adjust pensions to consider ».

Situation to which must be added the great difficulty of providing adequate health services, especially in the inland areas of the island.

«Sardinia presents additional difficulties - explains Mereu -, for this reason we will continue our mobilization: the Uil Pensionati, as we have already reiterated several times, claims the activation of discussion tables at regional level which primarily address the waiting lists and then the fundamental theme of territorial medicine ».
