Sardinia celebrates April 25th . In Cagliari first of all, singing “Bella ciao” but without the band in compliance with the “sobriety” requested by the Government for the death of Pope Francis, and with the traditional procession and the laying of wreaths at the Parco delle Rimembranze in the presence of civil and religious authorities.
According to the Digos, 5,000 people , and according to the organizers, 10,000, marched through the streets of the capital in a heterogeneous procession against any form of oppression or abuse.
The national anthem at the Park of Remembrance . And outside the choruses "Free Palestine" . Two demonstrations in one, therefore, one more closely linked to the memory of the Liberation and the other also extended to the international question against "war, genocide and repression".
The procession , after starting in Piazza Garibaldi, took Via Sonnino, then stopped in front of the Monument to the Fallen . Then a tribute to Antonio Gramsci in the square that bears the name of the thinker from Ales, at the height of the work of Pinuccio Sciola. And again a new stop to remember Emilio Lussu (symbol and legend of anti-fascism) and then up Viale Regina Margherita on the new route to dribble the construction sites of Via Roma.
Loud music and chants, including the inevitable “Bella ciao”.
Among those present at the ceremony were the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda , the regional councilor for transport Barbara Manca, and the president of the regional council Piero Comandini. "April 25 is an unmissable date to remember our history," said Zedda. "This day is also a warning and a lesson for the present and future of our country. This year too, we are in the square to claim the rights acquired after so much effort and blood shed by those who came before us. It is our responsibility not to take for granted a universal value such as freedom, which unfortunately is still threatened today."
"Good politics - concluded the mayor of Cagliari - must continue to be a spokesperson and bearer of peace in Europe, in Ukraine, in Palestine and in all those places where people die."
Then a new stop at Lussu's house - which he defended during the night-time assault by a fascist squad that wanted to eliminate him - in Piazza Martiri and then down Via Manno to head towards Piazza del Carmine, the end of the demonstration.
In Sassari the municipal administration celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-fascism with a public ceremony in the Piazza del Comune and in Palazzo Ducale, starting at 10.30.
A commemorative procession also took place in Alghero , starting at 9:30 from Piazza Porta Terra, while in Nuoro the meeting was at 11 at the Military Shrine of the Municipal Cemetery, with the laying of wreaths and institutional speeches also in the presence of the governor Alessandra Todde.
In Oristano , meeting at 10 am at the Parco della Resistenza to commemorate the local partisans.
"I believe that even Pope Francis would not have wanted April 25 not to be celebrated because of a bereavement , even because of a bereavement that concerns him - the words of Antonello Murgia , regional coordinator of Anpi - Having said that, even if at first in Cagliari we had involved the band for the route, we then opted for a single trumpeter who will play the Silenzio and the Inno di Mameli from the Parco delle Rimembranze".
