Searches in the Saras plant , but also the seizure of some documents and notification of the first guarantee information to the Sardinian top management of the refinery, which have been entered in the register of suspects. The surprise blitz of the foresters ordered by the Cagliari prosecutor in the context of one of the investigations on the alleged pollution linked to the refinery activity started yesterday morning . With the rangers of the investigative unit of the Forestry Corps there are also the consultants appointed by the public prosecutor Enrico Lussu who investigates for environmental disaster.

The foresters' blitz

At the gates of the Sarroch oil complex, the investigators exhibited a search and seizure decree signed by the prosecutor : all day they searched for documents and material useful for the investigation. Not only. The prosecutor's experts would also be on the hunt for substances or equipment that, at least in the investigative hypothesis, could have been used to "hide" any exceeding of the pollution thresholds. The forest rangers, led by commissioner Fabrizio Madeddu, worked all day but it is not known what they found or if they left with the confiscated material. With the search and seizure decree, however, the Prosecutor had to uncover the papers of an investigation that had remained hidden for a long time, notifying the first notices of guarantee. At the moment the names of the suspects are still top-secret.

The investigation

The file on Saras' activities was opened by the deputy prosecutor Enrico Lussu in August 2017, assuming an alleged spill of pollutants into the sea in front of the refinery. The impetus for the investigation was given by some complaints presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office in the summer of 5 years ago , accompanied by photos and a video that hypothesized spillage activities in the sea by Sarlux. Saras had immediately clarified that that video showed "sea water mixed with algae (hence the dark color) that it had been necessary to move from one side of the stretch of water in front of the small port of the service boats to the other, to avoid the accumulation that would have blocked the anti-pollution means ». The algae, he immediately told himself, would be blown by the wind. Now, however, after 5 years of investigations, prosecutor Lussu has ordered the raid with the acquisition of papers and sent his consultants to the refinery.

The other investigations

In addition to that of prosecutor Lussu, two other investigations by the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office concern the Sarroch refinery . One in progress by the prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia on the alleged pollution linked to the black smokes recorded between 2020 and 2021 and the one closed in December by the prosecutor of the Dda, Danilo Tronci on the alleged irregular purchase of crude oil from Iraq in 2016, when that area was in the hands of Isis.
