After more than half a century, the bell tower of the Basilica of Santa Giusta reopens. Following restoration work, the historic bell tower, closed for over fifty years, will once again be open to visitors this weekend thanks to a valuable collaboration between the FAI delegation in Oristano and the Fondazione Sardegna Isola del Romanico . This is a moment of cultural and social significance, allowing a monument of great significance to Sardinia's architectural and historical heritage to be returned to the community and to everyone.
Bruna Bianchina , head of the FAI delegation in Oristano: "I couldn't have imagined a more significant event to give substance and substance to the memorandum of understanding signed between the FAI and the Fondazione Sardegna Isola del Romanico. We are delighted to be among the protagonists in returning this monument to the community of Santa Giusta residents and to all those who will now be able to visit the interior and admire the area from above. The reopening of the bell tower not only offers this important opportunity, but also symbolizes the determination of both foundations to enhance and make accessible the island's extraordinary Romanesque heritage."
"For the Sardinia Romanesque Island Foundation, it is a great satisfaction to promote the project for the extraordinary reopening of the bell tower of the Basilica of Santa Giusta," explains Antonello Figus , president of the Foundation. "In previous decades, for several generations, it was impossible to access it; today, achieving this goal is a great honor. As president, and as a citizen of Santa Giusta," continues Antonello Figus, "the satisfaction is twofold: I have been committed to the success of this event, in collaboration with the parish and the Municipality of Santa Giusta. Furthermore, we wanted to give substance to the agreement recently signed with FAI Sardinia, which provides for the organization of joint events."
Given the nature and structure of the bell tower, access will be limited to groups of up to 7 people at a time. For organizational reasons, access to the bell tower is permitted only with a mandatory reservation, to be made through the FAI portal.
Tours are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 am to 6 pm. The inauguration ceremony will also take place on Saturday at 9 am, with a presentation of the restoration project by architect Silvia Oppo. Visitors will be required to sign a waiver before climbing the bell tower. The site will not be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
