In San Vero Milis there is still water chaos . A discomfort that has been going on for a month now . From the analyses carried out on the water resources of the seaside villages, slightly above-normal values regarding the salinity of the water have emerged , therefore the Municipality advises against food use .
To meet the needs of the population, the administration has set up drinking water supply tanks in all the villages .
"We understand the inconvenience caused and we are working to resolve the problem in a reasonable time - said Mayor Luigi Tedeschi - despite the complexity of the procedures and the stringent regulations to be respected". But the problems are also in the country. For months now, barely a trickle of water has come out of the tap.
Tedeschi explains why: «To avoid a complete emptying with consequent suspension of the water service, we had to reduce the pressure of the pumps that introduce water into the public pipeline, first only during the night hours and then throughout the day. The decision was necessary because less and less water is reaching the reservoir from the source. The main cause of the reduction in flow is linked to the reduced rainfall in recent years which has lowered the water table of the Santu Lussurgeddu spring. The Municipality is working to restore a water flow adequate to the new needs of the population. With a 140 thousand euro loan from Egas we are replacing about 3 kilometers of the main pipeline from the source with a pipe of a larger diameter than the current one. This intervention, in addition to increasing the water flow, will eliminate the problem of roots developing in the lumen of the pipeline. With budget funding we are activating the well located in the courtyard of the middle school and the one located near the playground which will act as a reserve in case of need».
"We are also studying - continues the mayor - the possibility of digging a new well near the main pipeline that brings water from the source. Aware of the urgency with which the problem must be resolved, I remind you that each intervention must be evaluated and implemented guaranteeing the requirements of potability and quality of the water and the continuous reduction of water resources worldwide, due to the now evident climate change that upsets the rhythm of rainfall. Next week we will approve a council resolution that will request a state of calamity for the reduction of water resources throughout the country, due to the drastic reduction in rainfall".
