A few days ago the ASl of Medio Campidano started, with the Coru Sardu project, a Sardinian language service at the Nostra Signora di Bonaria Hospital in San Gavino Monreale. Funded by Law 482/1999 "Regulations on the protection of historical linguistic minorities" and by LR 22/2018 "Discipline of Regional Linguistic Policy" which protect, promote and enhance minority languages in Sardinia by strengthening their use in every area of the public life.

The project was born in the Cardiology department of the hospital, directed by the head physician Gianfranco Delogu. The initial idea was to satisfy the needs of users who come from all the towns of the province and usually express themselves above all in Sardinian. From this initial idea a larger project took shape, with the aim of opening a Sardinian-language helpdesk that could be useful not only to the Cardiology department but to the entire hospital.

The Director General of the ASL Giorgio Carboni immediately appreciated this idea, guaranteeing attention and commitment for the success of the project. The counter, managed by the Boxis company, is already working in the department to organize the activities and prepare the materials concerning cardiological diseases and which will also be available on the ASL website.

The linguistic operators will meet the patients in the ward and their families, promoting a series of activities in Sardinian to strengthen the relationship between the patient and the health personnel. The helpdesk will also be active, at least once a week, in the hospital atrium, near the ticket office, where an expert will be available to the public to provide information in the Sardinian language.

As part of the Coru Sardu project, the training of health professionals will also be launched, who will be able to attend two levels of courses free of charge for the use of Sardinian in their workplace. The mayor of San Gavino Monreale Carlo Tomasi and the councilor for the Sardinian language Giusy Chessa welcomed the project, making the premises of the Media library located in the municipal library available for training courses.
