Lieutenant Sergio Passalacqua, 58 years old, commander of the San Gavino carabinieri station since 1997, received the honor of the order of merit of the Italian Republic conferred by President Sergio Mattarella. The prestigious award was presented to Sergio Passalacqua by Stefano Iasson, commander of the Carabinieri of the Sardinia Legion. The honor was awarded for his long and tireless activity in the service of the Corps.
In San Gavino Monreale since 1997, citizens have always found a point of comparison in the carabinieri of the local station and the recognition is a tangible sign for those who have dedicated their lives to the community, family and citizens of San Gavino. Sergio Passalacqua is originally from Messina and now his son Gianluca is head of the Gonnosfanadiga carabinieri station.
In his long career, the lieutenant received 9 honors and 4 awards. In 2021 he was named carabiniere of the year on the occasion of the Carabinieri festival in Rome. In the past he was the protagonist of the rescue of an elderly man by entering a house despite the flames and thick smoke and he also freed a young man kept segregated in the house by his tormentors.
