San Benedetto Market, the move to Piazza Nazzari is postponed
Hypothesized by January, but we are still waiting for the end of the works in the new structure. The concessionaires are waiting for the Municipality: «We know that they will notify us in time»Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
There is still no certain date for the move. Because there are still (a few) "things" to arrange in the new and temporary structure that will host them for the next two, three years at most. But the operators of San Benedetto, at this time, care little or nothing whether it is one day or another. "We are only interested in knowing in advance when we will have to move so we can organize ourselves and understand when we will be closed to allow the transfer operations to Piazza Nazzari", explains Massimo Ruggiu, president of the market concessionaires' committee. It will certainly not be by the end of January, that is, tomorrow, as was initially hypothesized. In fact, the Municipality, on more than one occasion, has reassured the concessionaires that they will be notified of the move date at least seven to ten days in advance, so as to allow each of them to organize the purchase of goods, without finding themselves with unsold stock on the days when neither the old nor the new market will be open. “We know that we will close for the time needed for the move, a week, ten days at most,” Ruggiu continues.
The times
While the technicians of the Municipality work on the structure of Piazza Nazzari to fix the last details, the inspections of the operators among the new boxes continue. Little by little the requests of the dealers are being satisfied, even if for some the problems encountered weeks ago remain. "The space of some boxes, especially for those who deal with meat, is insufficient", explains Ruggiu, "but we know that the administration is working on it. It is clear that in the first phase after the move we will have to adapt, in the sense that maybe not everything will be perfect, but it is normal for it to be like this. We were worried about having to leave San Benedetto without the structure of Piazza Nazzari being ready, remaining who knows how many days without working. But fortunately that is not the case. So", says Ruggiu, "as soon as the Municipality tells us the times, we will prepare. After all, San Benedetto needed a deep restoration". Even if the dealers were not all in agreement on the complete renovation of the building but would have liked it to be done in blocks, to avoid moving to Piazza Nazzari.
The unknowns
The transfer of the market has also reached the City Council. Roberto Mura, Alleanza Sardegna, has presented a question on the matter. «The mayor and the council continue to ignore our requests for clear and written information on the opening times of the temporary structure and on the start of work on the historic structure. I have brought up the problem again in the City Council after a long week of silence from the council, but even in the last session of the council the answers will perhaps arrive tomorrow. This prolonged silence puts at risk the future of a symbolic place of our city and of the many families who depend on it. It is time to give clear answers to the city».
