"I left Ploaghe's house because I was afraid of my husband."
Ilaria Saladdino appeared before the judges of the Assize Court of the Sassari court where her hearing was held this morning.
The woman had been attacked by her ex-husband Fulvio Baule , the bricklayer from Ploaghe who killed her father-in-law on 26 February 2022 and ferociously hit her mother-in-law, who died after about a month of agony.
That evening the 41-year-old multiple murderer threw himself with the same weapon, an axe, against his wife , who left hospital after a year of treatment.
Ilaria Saladdino said she did not remember the moment of the attack , but answered the questions of the prosecutor, Enrica Angioni and judge Massimo Zaniboni. She spoke of the "sick" relationship between her and her husband, of the conflicts between the Saladdino and Baule families, which had deteriorated since the day of her baptism "when my mother-in-law insulted me". That episode had a negative impact on the relationship between the two.
Present in the courtroom were the accused defended by the lawyer Nicola Lucchi, and the civil party lawyers Gian Mario Solinas and Gabriele Satta.
The next hearing, scheduled for November 14, will include the examination of the accused Baule and the testimony of seven people called by the defense.
