Port security and fire safety: these are the two cornerstones of the complex joint exercise that took place this morning in the industrial port of Oristano , as part of the periodic verification and training activities coordinated by the Port Authority. The scenario began with the simulation of unauthorized access to the port area by two individuals intending to plant dummy parcel bombs . The action was quickly identified and neutralized by the security service, which arrested the individuals and secured the area by applying the procedures set forth in the security plans.

The exercise then continued with the (simulated) outbreak of a fire on the "Ivi Petrolifera" dock , during operations to unload oil products from a docked vessel. The flames were initially tackled with the dock's fixed firefighting systems, but then, given the complexity of the situation and the risk of spread, the port's technical-nautical services were alerted. The Oristano Provincial Fire Brigade Command responded to the scene, alerted by the Harbour Master's operations room, and completely extinguished the flames in coordination with personnel from the concessionaire company.

During the operations, the fire's (always simulated) nature emerged, caused by an unauthorized intrusion through tampering with a security access point. This led, in agreement with the Prefecture of Oristano, to the temporary raising of the port facility's security level from Level 1 to Level 2 , resulting in increased access controls, patrols, and enhanced video surveillance and monitoring of sensitive areas. The exercise concluded with the full restoration of normal port activities.
