In Abruzzo, the Ryanair cure has already given tangible results for the next summer season: the company has presented five new routes that will contribute to increasing air traffic by 30%. A similar plan has just taken off in Calabria, at the Crotone and Lamezia Terme airports. The expansion of the connection network is already a reality in Trieste, in Friuli. The other regions are accelerating, while for now the Island is just watching. Or rather: after the meeting between the Region and the managers of the Irish low cost - who have proposed an investment program of 400 million euros - the next moves are being discussed. "We are evaluating the proposal", said Transport Councillor Barbara Manca .

To please Ryanair, the Council should eliminate the municipal surcharge on airline tickets, a tax (state, and only a small part of which is allocated to municipalities) that amounts to 6.5 euros per flight. The regional coffers should take charge of the lost revenue for the State. An operation that is worth approximately 35 million euros .

But even less could be enough – around 10 million euros – if the tax reduction were limited to the six months of low season, during which air traffic is lower and therefore fewer resources would be needed to offset the revenue.
