The rains of the last few weeks have only slightly alleviated the drought that is gripping Sardinia and emptying its basins. In the Nuoro area, the emergency remains well above warning levels. An example: in the Maccheronis dam, which feeds the Baronia, there are just 0.57 million cubic meters of water, 2.47% of the authorized capacity. It is dry.

The drama is highlighted by the data of the latest bulletin of the artificial reservoirs of the multi-sectoral water system of Sardinia, issued by the Basin Authority of the Island.

In the Sardinian reservoirs, water reserves as of October 31, 2024 are at 39.7%, equal to 725.2 million cubic meters of available water. As of September 30 of this year, there were 745.5, 40.8% of the maximum capacity of 1,824 million cubic meters. A year ago, as of October 31, 2023, reserves were equal to 936.5 cubic meters, 51.3%.

The emergency is widespread but the major critical issues remain in the Nuorese and Sulcis areas. In the first case, the level of the Maccheronis dam, which serves five municipalities (Torpè, Posada, Budoni, Siniscola and San Teodoro), continues to fall from 6.6% to 2.5%, but in the Pedra and Othoni dam (Cedrino) the level rises, albeit slightly: from 29.8% to 31.8%.

In Sulcis the Medau Zirilimis dam remains empty, while that of Bau Pressiu goes from 0 to 3.3%. Over 50% of water reserves in Liscia, in Gallura (52.4%), in Gusana (68.1% with an increase of 7 points) and Benzone (54%) and Omodeo (62%) in the Tirso water system: the small Santa Lucia reservoir, in Sulcis Iglesiente with 96% but only a little less than 3 million cubic meters available; in the Flumendosa Campidano and Cixerri area, overall between the two basins of Flumineddu (6.8%) and Flumendosa (49%), Fluminimannu (56.8%) and the medium-small ones of Sa forada de s'acqua (67.2%) and Genna is Abis-Rio Cixerri (89.6%).
