Digital revolution, artificial intelligence, and the future of work: these are some of the topics at the center of the meeting organized this morning at the Caesar's Hotel in Cagliari on the occasion of the first congress of Uilfpc, the new union formed by the merger of Uilcom and Uil Poste . The title chosen for the first regional congress is " The Human Factor ," which captures the event's focus.
"Presence, responsibility, passion, competence, fairness: these are the values that guarantee the human factor and that the human factor is called upon to manage," reads the congress slogan. Uilfpc thus aims to offer a new perspective on a rapidly changing reality. Through a careful analysis of the innovations transforming the world of work, challenging various sectors, the union will launch concrete proposals aimed at institutions and politicians, with the aim of managing change by putting the person at the center. "We have three ideas that we want to convey to the public , to international organizations, and to the Confederation of Labor," emphasized Tonino Ortega, general secretary of Uilcom Sardinia . "The first: the algorithm is a tool to be regulated , and the place where this regulation takes place is the national collective bargaining agreement. The second: responsibility cannot be in the hands of a machine , but in the world of work it must always and exclusively be human." Third: given the increase in work and productivity generated by the industrial revolution, we demand a reduction in working hours while maintaining the same wages, and that all the wealth generated by the digital world be distributed to workers, both financially and in terms of time.
"We expected," Ortega added, "for example, the entry of ChatGPT, a mass layoff of existing workers. Unfortunately, the opposite has happened: there has been a decline in new job openings, especially in junior positions. There has been a 13% decrease in apprenticeship contracts." The initiative also saw the election of the leadership team that will lead Uilfpc in Sardinia. UIL Sardinia's general secretary, Fulvia Murru , also spoke at the meeting, expressing deep concern about several ongoing disputes on the island. "A strong group must emerge from the congress, because the disputes in Sardinia today are significant and serious. The Tiscali dispute is of great concern to us: many jobs are at risk. We are calling for concrete commitment from politicians and businesses," she stated. "We want concrete answers on how to overcome this serious problem to come from tomorrow's meeting in the Region."
