It's called " Southern Sardinia " the operation that sees the forest carabinieri engaged in garrison activities along the southern part of the island to safeguard the pass birdlife .

In February, the checks were carried out in the mountainous and rural areas of southern Sardinia, an area also called the "Black Spot" as it is a hot spot for the presence of poachers . In the field, to prevent and combat the phenomenon of poaching and protect biodiversity, the soldiers of the Cites group, operational department - Anti-poaching Operational Section - Crimes in Harm to Animals (SOARDA) of Rome together with the local Carabinieri Unit CITES Cagliari.

The territory was searched tirelessly on the trail of poachers and focusing attention on the areas that Lipu and Cabs volunteers had already reported.

A man was reported in Domus de Maria, held responsible for killing protected birdlife with unauthorized means during the general closure period . When the military ordered him to stop, he would have fled to be identified later by the forest carabinieri together with the staff of the local station.

A total of 1,90 traps for catching protected avifauna called "laccius e terra", 4 bird nets, 13 snares for catching ungulates and several dead specimens belonging to various species of particularly protected migratory avifauna, including blackbirds ( Turdus merula), robins (Erithacus rubecula) and song thrushes (Turdus philomelos).

The vehicles found are prohibited by sector legislation both because they are not selective, i.e. they affect all species of avifauna including those subjected to a regime of greater protection as they are more threatened, and because they cause atrocious suffering for the captured specimens.
