"No to the storage of radioactive waste in Sardinia". This was reiterated by the President of the Sardinia Region, Alessandra Todde , who asked the Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin , to convene an urgent meeting between the Region, the mayors of the Sardinian municipalities involved and the ministry itself to discuss the contested hypothesis of placing the National Nuclear Waste Repository in Sardinia.
"Sardinia - Todde underlines - has already expressed its NO several times , as decided by the Regional Council in 2021 and further confirmed by the Order of the Day n. 15/XVII, approved last December 3. This battle is a pillar of our commitment to protecting the environment, safety and well-being of local communities. Our position reflects the unanimous sentiment of Sardinian citizens, clearly expressed in the 2011 referendum, where 97% of voters declared themselves against any nuclear installation on the island", concludes Todde.
