The Carabinieri of the Selargius Station arrested a 72-year-old pensioner , resident in the city, in execution of a house arrest order issued by the Surveillance Court of Cagliari. The man, already known to the police force, will have to serve a sentence of four months and twenty days for the crimes of stalking and aggravated threats.

The victim was the ex-wife that the arrested man had met in the company where they both worked. After starting a romantic relationship in 2011, the couple had started living together which ended in 2014, shortly after the birth of their son. The separation, never accepted by the man, gave rise to a series of serious persecutory behaviors against the woman.

Episodes that went on for years, including explicit death threats and continuous defamatory accusations, sometimes made in front of her son , constant stalking, sending of harassing messages and threats, such as that of disfiguring her face, and obsessive monitoring of the victim's movements.

The order of house arrest, the Carabinieri recall, "represents a final stage in the judicial process of a case that has once again highlighted the importance of firmly combating the phenomena of domestic violence and persecution."
