The seventh edition of the " Global game jam ", the event dedicated to the development of video games and board games , arrives in Cagliari.

The appointment – signed by the Fabbricastorie association – takes place simultaneously with hundreds of other cities around the world and is set for February 3 to 5 in the premises of the workshops of the former tobacco factory . The program is a veritable celebration of game design : the theme, the same for everyone, will be communicated shortly before the start of the competition. To participate in the Game Jam it is not necessary to be a developer : the creation involves artists , graphics , musicians and game designers . However, the doors are also open to the simple curious and enthusiasts : everyone can try their hand at creating a game.

The participants , gathered in spontaneous groups, will compete in the creation of a game prototype (often videogame) - to be presented to the others in the competition - which will remain the property of the authors . It is not unusual for the prototypes created during the event to be further developed by the authors and find a commercial outlet .

«In 2017 , the year of the first edition - explain the organizers - we realized that most of the Italian cities that had hosted the Global games jam up to that moment corresponded to headquarters of renowned technological universities. The city of Cagliari and more generally Sardinia , while hosting a major ICT technological district, had not yet turned its attention to the videogame market, which, being an intangible asset, guarantees ease of access even to geographically disadvantaged territories. Since then Cagliari has seen the formation of a real informal community of developers , schools dedicated to videogame programming have arisen, small independent design and development studios have been set up, other players, both public and private, have proposed to enliven the sector ». On the sidelines of the event, seminars , workshops and conferences are planned, partly in progress as a preparation for the Jam and partly still being defined.
