In front of the "El Príncipe" time does not pass. Thirty years after his arrival in Cagliari, Enzo Francescoli is back again in the city that welcomed him like an idol for three seasons and that yesterday embraced him again with the same indelible affection.
The occasion is special: the wedding of his son Marco, who has always been linked to the island and the city so much that he chose Cagliari for the wedding, despite a life still spent in the four corners of the globe.
The ceremony is still a few days away, but Enzo has already landed in the city.
So why not take advantage of it? Two quick phone calls to organize the meeting with the complicity of his son and yesterday a place in the heart of the Marina was transformed for a few hours into a time machine thanks to which to retrace indelible moments in the memory of the Sardinians.
The meeting, moderated by the journalist Nicola Muscas, did not disappoint the audience: laughter, emotion and that renewed amazement at rethinking how one of the greatest champions of his time was intertwined between anecdotes and questions, after a career spent between Buenos Aires, Paris and Marseille decided to call a small town in the Italian province "home" for three years, taking it where no one would have ever hoped: to a historic qualification for the UEFA Cup.
In reality, the icing on the cake disappeared for a very short time. In fact, Mr. Ranieri should have also attended the evening, unfortunately detained in Rome. Maybe that would have been too much. Too many emotions for the rossoblù hearts to manage in a single moment, among other things exactly one month after the promotion won in Bari.
It doesn't matter, El Principe has returned and accomplished yet another feat: for one evening he stopped time and returned to Cagliari as if he had never left it.
