The resolution of the deaf child's case is still awaited. The judge has reserved his decision. He acknowledged the parties' positions but took time to fully evaluate the case and then make a decision on the merits. This morning, the first hearing was scheduled at the Oristano courthouse in the case involving the Municipality of Oristano and the parents of a nine-year-old disabled boy, deaf since birth.

The municipality granted him communication assistance services for only eight hours a week, even though the educational plan the school sent to the municipality last May states that "eight hours are insufficient to encourage student participation in inclusive teaching."

But also that "to ensure the right to education for children with severe hearing loss, it is hoped that the possibility of having the support of a caregiver for 30 hours will be available."

Francesca Macis, the lawyer representing the child's parents (in her second formal notice, she had specified that if the matter was not resolved immediately, the competent authorities would be consulted), filed an appeal with the Oristano court in mid-November. The child, assisted by his special education teacher, also needs a go-between to understand his lessons and communicate with his classmates. But there's still time to wait.
