Dogs that, instigated by their owners, kill moufflons in Golfo Aranci?

The complaint comes from the animal rights activists of LNDC Animal Protection , who speak of a real massacre of wild sheep in the town and write to the mayor Mario Mulas.

Golfo Aranci, explains the association, is a "real naturalistic paradise which includes some species which, from a conservation point of view, are considered vulnerable because few specimens remain".

Among these is the mouflon, a species of wild sheep «which is found in very few places in Italy, including Golfo Aranci, of which it represents one of the tourist attractions» .

Animals at risk of extinction which, as animal rights activists who have collected various reports from residents denounce, for some time "have been targeted, chased, hunted down and sometimes killed by some owned dogs left unattended".

A few days ago the latest case, a female mouflon was found dead on the rocks near the municipal gymnasium, probably due to the attack of one or more dogs. Furthermore, this is the most disturbing detail, " there would be some dog owners who amuse themselves by inciting their animals against the moufflons they encounter ". And it is not a question, it is specified, of isolated cases, but of a now common thing "which can no longer be tolerated".

Hence the decision to write a letter to Mayor Mulas «to ask for his intervention to protect these wild animals which do not cause any nuisance and which indeed represent a huge resource for his territory, in terms of both biodiversity and tourism».

«It is necessary – reads the letter – that the mayor implements measures to monitor the situation and check that the dogs are kept on a leash correctly, as required by law. The leash is not a constraint, but it is to all intents and purposes a safety belt to prevent our dog from representing a danger to himself and to others».
