"It will be ready in the spring," Public Works Councilor Antonio Conti assured at the end of January. But the opening of the Quartu velodrome, the only one in Sardinia, seems a long way off, at least judging by these images.

The renovation of the facility (one million and 200 thousand euros plus 405 thousand euros for the exterior) has so far concerned the 333.33 metre concrete ring and the rooms with bathrooms and changing rooms, but the facility is certainly not ready for opening.

According to the Municipality, management should be entrusted to a private individual and here another chapter opens because, it should be remembered, at the moment in Sardinia (where there has been no racing for about twenty years) there are no athletes who practice track cycling or bicycles (except perhaps the old frames of the Starter Centre built in Quartu at the end of the 1980s).

What will such a specific (and expensive) system be used for? And above all: when will it be put into operation? These are questions to which, at this time, no one is likely able to provide a precise and reliable answer.
