A life dedicated to politics, and to the growth of Quartu. The city says goodbye to former mayor Salvatore Pitzianti, born in 1931, who passed away a few days ago. As soon as he turned 18, he joined the Italian Communist Party, within which he began his party activity dealing with cooperation, then the administrative activity in the Municipality of Quartu which he began in 1961: he ran on the PCI list, and was immediately elected city councilor. Re-elected in 1964, he lived through the municipal crisis and the brief period as commissioner in 1967.

In 1968, after new elections, he was appointed group leader of the PCI and in 1970, following the death of Mayor Cois, the Council elected him mayor. He remained in office until the end of his mandate, in 1972, playing a leading role - among other things - in the approval of the projects for the town hall and the market. The same year, he once again gained the favor of the citizens and resumed his activity as a councilor. Then his career in the Regional Committee for the Control of Local Authorities' Acts, in the National League of Mutual Cooperatives of the province of Cagliari. And finally, the regional presidency of the Cooperatives, a position he held until his retirement.

"I learned with emotion the news of the death of the former mayor of our city Tore Pitzianti, whom I had the opportunity to meet as a boy, when he was already very active in politics", the memory of the current mayor Graziano Milia. "I want to express my condolences and my closeness to his family. I still remember his dedication, his desire to find solutions to meet the needs of a city that was experiencing a significant demographic boom in those years. During his mandate, the urban development of Quartu was started and several nursery schools were created with rental agreements in private buildings, thus giving impetus to the services required by a city that was on its way to becoming the third in Sardinia in terms of population. In thanking him on behalf of the citizens for what he did for the growth of our territory - concludes Milia - I hope that his perseverance and his self-denial for the common good can be a source of inspiration for the new generations".
