The areas most at risk are the usual ones: viale Colombo, via Marconi and via Brigata SassariPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The last one, the twenty-fifth, was hit two days ago. He was crossing Piazza Azuni when he was hit by a car that was making the maneuver - strictly forbidden - of turning from Via Bonaria towards Via Brigata Sassari.
Worrying data
Previously, it was the turn of twenty-four other pedestrians, hit by distracted drivers who do not stop at the crosswalk, who talk on the phone, who even send messages. A number that is up compared to 2023 when accidents involving pedestrians stopped at 19 .
This is what emerges from the data of the accident sector of the Local Police which also reports a fine to a pedestrian for violating the rules of conduct (against 3 in 2023) and which refers for example to pedestrians who cross with a red light or outside the stripes even though they are present.
The risk areas
Of the 15 accidents this year, all resolved with injuries no longer than thirty days, two occurred at a traffic light, one outside the crosswalk and as many as fifteen on a pedestrian crossing . Of these, five in via Marconi, four in viale Colombo, three in via Brigata Sassari, two at the intersection of via Monsignor Angioni and via Nigra and one - the last - in piazza Azuni with traffic at a standstill from the height of the Carrefour.
The most dangerous points remain the crossings on Viale Colombo a few steps from the roundabout on Via Marconi , where things are complicated by the uncivilized people who leave their cars on the crosswalk and get away with it most of the time, and also on Via Marconi especially at the intersection with Via Volta and Via Porcu, Via Brigata Sassari and so on.
The reactions
"Unfortunately, many people are inattentive, they don't stop at the crosswalk, they don't give way," says Desio Bove, 82, as he passes through Piazza Azuni, "it's risky to walk, especially for us older people. And often, tragedies happen because of distracted drivers." For this reason, he adds, "I'm not surprised that accidents on the crosswalk are increasing. Worse still is at night, when people drive even after drinking." Agnese Sarais, 75, adds: "We pedestrians must also pay maximum attention, I've learned that if cars don't stop first, you shouldn't cross even if you're on the crosswalk because you risk being run over, and I don't even trust traffic lights when there's a red light for pedestrians because they turn and don't stop."
In short, walking is a risk at any time of the day or night .
The countermeasures
Precisely to try to preserve the safety of those who travel on foot, for some time now the construction of raised pedestrian crossings has been intensified in the most at-risk streets such as via San Benedetto, Salieri, Della Musica, Beethoven, Siena, Cagliari. But there are many requests for more, especially in the second stretch of via Fiume, towards Poetto.
