The resignation of Undersecretary Delmastro does not stop the transfer of prisoners under the 41 bis regime to the three Sardinian prisons of Uta, Badu 'e Carros and Bancali .
Justice Minister Carlo Nordio confirmed this, and it is written in black and white in the response to a question presented by Sardinian MPs Silvio Lai (PD) and Francesca Ghirra (AVS) .
The question also focused on the work being done at the Nuoro prison, and the Minister of Justice clarified that the work in Sardinian prisons is not a random intervention, but rather the result of a "comprehensive reconversion plan." This strategy aims to achieve a "more efficient" distribution of prisoners under the 41-bis regime, through the reconversion of dedicated facilities and in accordance with the provisions of the penitentiary system, which recommends "privileging island areas" for this type of inmate.
Nordio's response states: "A comprehensive plan is currently being implemented to convert the detention spaces designated for the special regime referred to in Article 41 bis of the penitentiary system. This plan includes both the upcoming opening of a dedicated section at the Uta prison, with a total capacity of 92 places , the planning and construction of which have been documented since 2011. It also includes structural and functional adaptation work at the Nuoro prison , aimed at ensuring the facility's full compliance with the regulatory requirements for the special circuit."
The Department of Penitentiary Administration, the Minister of Justice writes, "had already communicated to the Regional Presidency the opening of the Uta penitentiary as part of the definition of the regional circuit, specifying on that occasion that it would be equipped with a section for inmates subject to the special regime referred to in Article 41 bis, with a total of 92 places, similar to the Sassari prison ."
