Maximum alert in the prison of Lanusei , where the union organizations are asking for "very urgent interventions".

"In recent months - reads a note signed by SAPPE, SINAPPE, UIL PA PP, USPP and CGIL - psychiatric prisoners and troublemakers have been sent to the Institute who in the other
Institutes that are much better equipped from a structural point of view have created serious difficulties for order and security
. In fact, sections have been created with so-called "sex offenders" prisoners combined with psychiatric subjects who create difficulties for the regular activities of the Institute and, in addition to putting the staff in extreme difficulty, cause serious difficulties for those prisoners who would only like to serve dignified one's sentence".

We also recall the recent serious death threats addressed to the agents by two prisoners .

"We are aware - continues the document - that employing 4 units throughout the Institute in the afternoon and evening shift and 3 in the night shift including the general surveillance coordinator means exposing the staff to serious risks for their personal safety but also means not ensure the safety of operators in the event of critical events in that time slot. Furthermore, if there is a sudden need, as happened recently, to send an inmate to an external place of care, the Institute is inevitably manned by a single unit, thus further jeopardizing the safety of the operators and the safety of the escort who , in some cases, should be composed of at least 3 units”. "The unit that remains in the Institute, however, given the absence of an already defined operational plan - underline the unions -, simply has to rely on luck and hope that some off-duty agent can answer the phone and be able to go to the Institute in time reasonable at night".
“We believe that the distribution of the units in the shifts was designed with a different type of inmate from the current one, in fact only so-called sex offenders were allocated in the Institute, but currently the choice to create a mix of types that in other Institutes does not would never have been allowed determines the objective need to ensure very urgent interventions".

Two other critical situations concern the fact that the doctor on call "is present for only 6 hours a day" and "there is no isolation room where to allocate prisoners who need not to have contact with others, in case they go into a rage".

Ultimately, the Lanusei institute is described as a "time bomb" and the administrator is also asked to urgently send another director.
