Monsignor Gianfranco Saba takes oath as Military Ordinary of Italy

Last day in the Archdiocese of Sassari for Archbishop Monsignor Gianfranco Saba who, today, Monday 12 May, took the oath as Military Ordinary for Italy, a position that was entrusted to him about a month ago by Pope Francis, a few days before his death.
This morning the official ceremony took place, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, at the library of the Palazzo Esercito in Rome, "the solemn oath of His Most Reverend Excellency, appointed by Pope Francis as the new Military Ordinary for Italy".
Born in Olbia, Monsignor Saba, 56, was appointed to lead the Archdiocese of Sassari in 2017. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 10, in the Cathedral of San Nicola in Sassari, in the presence of religious, civil and military institutions. A prestigious position as chaplain of the Italian military, obtained following Monsignor Marcianò's discharge as Military Ordinary.
