Another service that closes its doors and impoverishes the territory. In Sorso, the Banca Intesa San Paolo branch on Viale Cottoni will close by June, depriving the entire Romangia of an essential service. The closure of the bank's headquarters in Sorso follows, in fact, that of a short time ago in Sennori. The news of the imminent closure was announced to the mayor of Sorso, Fabrizio Demelas, by the director of the branch and the area manager of the credit institution. A decision that the municipal administrations of Sorso and Sennori are opposed to, through the voice of the mayors and with a joint resolution of the two councils asking Intesa San Paolo to backtrack: «All this is simply unacceptable. I have already had the opportunity to express my opposition to the bank officials, on behalf of all citizens and not only. Given that a Banca Intesa branch was closed a few years ago in Sennori and most of the former account holders had the Sorso branch as their point of reference. We will try to make our dissonant voice heard and prevent this act with joint initiatives with the municipal administration of Sennori. With this closure in Sorso only one branch of Banco di Sardegna would remain in operation, too little to guarantee an efficient service to a town of almost 15 thousand inhabitants. We are not in agreement", declares the mayor of Sorso, Fabrizio Demelas. Demelas' words are echoed by those of the mayor of Sennori, Nicola Sassu: "The intention of the bank management goes against our two communities. We are one voice in protest and the approval of a resolution by the joint council to ask Intesa San Paolo to reconsider is only the first step", adds the mayor of Sennori, Nicola Sassu. The councilor for the budget of the municipality of Sennori, Vittorio Cossu, also intervenes on the matter: "The territorial plan for the dismantling of the bank carried out by Banca Intesa San Paolo, with the closure of the branches, first Sennori and now Sorso, which were also recently renovated, is absolutely inconceivable. Banks in general, especially in the internal areas, have represented an economic driving force for families and entrepreneurs and such choices, in addition to leaving essential services uncovered for the population, especially the elderly, strike at the heart of economic areas already put to the test by the financial system", says the councilor. As a former employee of Intesa San Paolo, he adds: "The Sorso branch has always been among the first 200 Italian branches, always reaching the assigned objectives, with approximately 5,000 customers to manage and follow. We cannot allow our fellow citizens to be sent kilometers away just for the whim of some manager who has no knowledge of the local reality at all".
