The Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Iglesias Company, with the support of a canine unit from the "Cacciatori di Sardegna" Helicopter Squadron of Abbasanta, have reported a 72-year-old pensioner resident of Portoscuso for illegal possession of a firearm.
During a search of a sheepfold linked to him , officers found an illegally held .22-caliber pistol, a "Velo-Dog" model. In his home, he also had two ancient terracotta amphorae and some tools of presumed archaeological interest , which led to his being charged with receiving stolen cultural goods.
The recovered material was seized and will be assessed by technicians from the Carabinieri Cultural Heritage Protection Unit to determine its true provenance and historical value. Following the formal procedures, and in accordance with the instructions of the Judicial Authority, the man was released pending the next hearings.
