"The internship is our right", especially if it is a linguistic high school. And again: "Less bureaucracy, more empathy".

In Porto Torres, students from the linguistic high school, part of the Mario Paglietti Higher Education Institute, demonstrated to claim the right to study trips abroad. Parents, teachers, girls and boys with slogans, whistles and megaphones, protested forcefully in front of the school entrance, urging a confrontation with the school management.

Five classes from course A and others from other sections, as well as a group of students from the scientific sports high school. The decision to demonstrate was made on Thursday, after the meeting of the Institute assembly.

«We have been asking for a long time to participate in the language courses as foreseen by the school educational offer illustrated during the Open Days», explains Gabriele R., a 17-year-old student, among the most lively of the protest.

“We are tired of programs that are not respected because study trips are organized late and in the end they are cancelled.”

Over 150 students with some parents and the teachers of the linguistic high school at their side. A roar of engines ignites the protest. They want to be heard. "We need to live these experiences that we have been facing with discomfort for five years now", underlines Giada Zinchedu , an 18-year-old student, "all this despite the many requests from us, we students of the linguistic high school who need to practice the language".

Within the school, a commission of teachers and a parent is responsible for organizing study projects in Italy and abroad.

"For the fourth year in a row we have been enduring problems with the organization of internships, students who need training trips and, to date, still no response that we expected by December. The serious shortcoming, in fact, is the timing that creates enormous inconvenience in terms of prices that are rising", explains Daniela Campus, a Languages teacher .

They ask the school principal, Daniele Taras , for a proactive and flexible approach "to overcome the difficulties that may arise. We want to collaborate", says Costantino Biello , father of a student.

Donatella Pinna, member of the Parents' Council, echoes her: "We want a timely schedule for training events," she reiterates, "as we requested from the management, a meeting in which they assured us that we would never get to this point again."

Juri Masoni , parent of a student, also supports the battle for internships and Erasmus trips. «The internship that was supposed to take place in France was already cancelled last year, with an invitation to make a bank transfer, followed by a series of frenetic communications in which the departure date was changed» , explains Masoni. This is what is written in the various notes sent via Pec. «The training course requires the constant use of a foreign language with internships in Italy and abroad, but we can do nothing but show our concern».

They urged a continuous discussion, first in December 2024, then in February of the current year. "With every reservation of public initiative to protect students in the event of a lack of response." This is the last communication, also signed by parents Biello and Pinna, before the protest, which ended with a discussion with the school principal Taras.

"The school has requested quotes from various operators, at least 20, for all educational trips, including internships, but to date there have been no responses for the latter," the principal replies. "Therefore, various travel projects have started or will start for students who attend other courses of study, while objective difficulties are being recorded for the language course. However - concludes Daniele Taras - should offers arrive in good time, the school institution is committed to taking action to allow these students to also experience an internship abroad in the coming months, which is considered important."

The constructive discussion allowed us to focus our attention on the need to bring forward some new targeted interventions for the future and immediately, also ensuring the involvement of families and students.
