The Province of Oristano is stepping up prevention and response to the West Nile virus with a comprehensive plan that focuses on three key areas: ongoing territorial monitoring, technological innovation, and active citizen participation .

To make interventions more effective, the agency has increased its staff with new hires of pest control specialists, ensuring a stable presence and a more timely response to the needs of municipalities. At the same time, state-of-the-art technologies have been introduced to monitor and control mosquitoes, the main vectors of the virus.

Among the innovations is the use of a specialized drone for larval control operations in marshy areas inaccessible by traditional means. This innovative tool allows for greater precision and speed, optimizing time and resources.

The plan also includes the free distribution of larvicide kits for home use to citizens, through schools and municipalities, to encourage public participation. Automatic, time-release dispensers for larval control have also been purchased for public areas such as drains and street grates, as well as new traps for capturing and monitoring mosquitoes, thus expanding the existing detection network.

"This is a comprehensive and innovative plan that focuses on prevention, the intelligent use of technology, and collaboration with citizens," said Paolo Pireddu, President of the Province of Oristano. "Protecting public health is a priority, and combating the West Nile virus requires a collective, constant, and coordinated effort."

Andrea Grussu , Councilor for the Environment, added: "This project consolidates the work already done in recent years and introduces tools that will allow us to operate even more efficiently. The goal is to make each intervention targeted and strengthen the control and prevention network throughout the province."

This plan marks a step forward in the fight against West Nile, with technology and citizen participation at the heart of a coordinated effort to protect health.
