The Municipality of Porto Torres is awaiting the results of the surveys carried out by Arpas technicians on air quality, following the large fire that, on Monday 5 May shortly before 1 pm, affected the roof of the former Safisarda warehouse, in the artisanal sector of via Pigafetta in the industrial area. The cloud of black smoke that invaded the area alarmed the municipal administration, engaged in monitoring the situation, in particular the quadrant of the winds, fortunately favorable in the operations to put out the fire by the teams of firefighters from the offices of Sassari, Alghero and Porto Torres.
Spresal personnel were also on site to verify any responsibilities. In the industrial complex of about 10 thousand square meters of surface of the Ex Safisarda, a company closed 12 years ago specialized in the production of paper bags for cement, the fire affected the roof of the warehouse sold a few years ago to a company from Sassari. Here the flames developed during the waterproofing work that some workers were carrying out on the roof. While they were arranging the tarred cardboard panels to insulate the roof, a spark ignited the fire. The fire spread in a few minutes, favored by the wind and the presence of polystyrene, an easily flammable material. One of the workers from the adjacent metalworking workshop raised the alarm. The flames invaded the neighboring structure, destroying the entire roof.
The timely intervention of the 115 teams served to contain the flames, the fire brigade teams, who intervened on site with six vehicles, including a tanker and a ladder truck, put out the fire, preventing it from affecting the electrical material and machinery stored inside the building. Fortunately, no one was injured. The extinguishing operations continued for over two hours. The carabinieri, the local police, the state police and the ambulance also intervened on site, in addition to the Arpas technicians for the air quality measurements and the Spresal staff to ascertain whether there were any irregularities.
